Recent energy balance of Earth
نویسندگان
چکیده
A recently published estimate of Earth’s global warming trend is 0.63 ± 0.28 W/m, as calculated from ocean heat content anomaly data spanning 1993–2008. This value is not representative of the recent (2003–2008) warming/cooling rate because of a “flattening” that occurred around 2001–2002. Using only 2003–2008 data from Argo floats, we find by four different algorithms that the recent trend ranges from –0.010 to –0.160 W/m with a typical error bar of ±0.2 W/m. These results fail to support the existence of a frequently-cited large positive computed radiative imbalance.

متن کامل1 Entropy Production by Earth System Processes
Degradation of energy to lower temperatures and the associated production of entropy is a general direction for Earth system processes, ranging from the planetary energy balance, to the global hydrological cycle and the cycling of carbon by Earth’s biosphere. This chapter introduces the application of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to the planetary energy balance of Earth and its neighboring pla...

Leptin is a 16-kD protein which is secreted from white adipocytes and, its discovery has generated enormous interest in the regulation of energy balance. Leptin has been implicated in the regulation of food intake, energy expenditure, and whole-body energy balance in animals and human. Plasma leptin levels correlate with fat storages and respond to changes in energy balance. It was initially pr...
متن کاملAn update on Earth’s energy balance in light of the latest global observations
691 Earth’s climate is determined by the flows of energy into and out of the planet and to and from Earth’s surface. Geographical distributions of these energy flows at the surface are particularly important as they drive ocean circulations, fuel the evaporation of water from Earth’s surface and govern the planetary hydrological cycle. Changes to the surface energy balance also ultimately contr...
متن کاملEnergy Auditing in Cement Industry: A Case study
Industrial energy consumption lies between 30% and 70% of the total energy consumed in selected countries. Cement production is one of the most energy intensive industries all around the world. This paper deals with an energy audit analysis in a cement plant in Iran. In all recent works, after performing an energy audit, different strategies are offered to reduce energy losses. Generally, these...
متن کاملA Finite Element Algorithm of a Nonlinear Diffusive Climate Energy Balance Model
We present a finite element algorithm of a climate diagnostic model that takes as a climate indicator the atmospheric sea-level temperature. This model belongs to the category of energy balance models introduced independently by the climatologists M.I. Budyko and W.D. Sellers in 1969 to study the influence of certain geophysical mechanisms on the Earth climate. The energy balance model we are d...
